April Desk: Functional Beauty by BilliShere April Desk: Functional Beauty by BilliShere
Well y'all. I am back on ubuntu after a period of hiatus. I'm trying out lucid and I must say I am very impressed by the new release. Although there are some minor annoyances that only someone who knows a thing or two about ubuntu can fix.

this screenshot has a clean and a (really) dirty version. I wish lucid would be shipped like this by default.
fonts are antialiased with autohinting by a special conf file (kinda like kubuntu's or osx's fonts)...

Thanks! That image viewer is called gloobus-preview..It can quickly preview many different kinds of files (not necessary images only) by a quick tap of the space bar on your keyboard (pretty much a useful copycat feature from apple's mac osx).
You may or may not have to install the software from source (compile it). It could be available in Synaptic package manager or it could possibly be available as a .deb somewhere on the internet. You'll have to search for it (and the installation instructions) if need be.

unfortunately i do not have this wallpaper anymore... i gave my laptop in for repairs and they formatted everything and put vista on it. :(
but you can find the wallpaper here on deviantart...it should be under the Mac/PC/OS wallpaper section.

Excuse my ignorance... but what player/skin/app are you using for the CD artwork at the bottom?

ah no worries man,
that is covergloobus.
here is the link to the launchpad page: [link]
and here are some installation instructions (read the whole page if unsure):
[link]
think of it as an alternative to cdart display if you use windows.
it just displays the cover of the song you are playing, its lyrics, and controls for pausing, rating your track, and a few other features.

What emerald theme is that?
Reply
:iconbillishere:
BilliShere Featured By Owner Apr 29, 2010
yup its emerald. and the theme is slightly modded from the original (i changed the order of the buttons). You can find the original right here at this link:
[link]

Unfortunately i do not have the modded emerald with the button order as in the preview above. it was on my laptop which i sent in for repairs. so you will have to mod it yourself sorry. its not as simple a job as just changing the order in emerald theme manager im afraid. you will have to edit the pixmaps...flip some images in gimp horizontally if you know what i mean.

oh hey bro thanks :)
the file to smooth fonts is right here at this link:
[link]
get the fonts text file and just save it as .fonts.conf in your home folder. result are fonts that look fantastic...even better than osx :D

and yeah i tried globalmenu. I didn't get a deb file. instead i pulled it from the ppa, extracted it and built it from source. just follow the instructions on this link.. works perfect:

Its just the same good ole nautilus. compiled from source from nautilus-elementary ppa. its been stable for me, but the author says there are bugs in the thing that still need ironing out.
